Disability support services in Newfoundland and Labrador and Canada: Impacts on labour market participation for individuals with disabilities

This report shares findings from a project that explored barriers to labour market participation related to disability support services in Newfoundland and Labrador. The research engaged policy makers and persons with disabilities to consider different perspectives and experiences with both designing/allocating and using disability support services. Findings on the impact of different disability support services on the labour market participation of persons with disabilities are presented, with a focus on disability-related supports attached to income support programs. Broader issues are also examined; they are related to disability support program eligibility, portability, financing, and delivery, as well as how improved coordination, efficiency, flexibility, and accountability could improve employment outcomes in the local labour market for persons with disabilities.
