Doing things differently: A disability rights at work handbook

Workplace tool

This handbook was created by the Canadian Labour Congress for trade union leaders, union staff representatives, local executive, committee members and shop stewards. The handbook serves as a guide that educates workplace parties involved in union settings about disability rights/justice, union’s role in facilitating disability inclusion, the accommodation process, as well as relevant legislation, legal and historical context. It provides an overview of disability rights issues in Canada, with a specific focus on advancements and challenges in workplaces and in the union movement.

The handbook includes a comprehensive guide on the duty to accommodate, a checklist for organizing accessible events, and many more practical resources for supporting disability rights in workplaces, unions, and communities.
